Cuban heavyweight sensation Lenier Peró is out indefinitely following surgery to repair a broken jaw.
According to a highly credible source who requested anonymity, the heavyweight from Camagüey underwent a complicated procedure lasting more than nine hours. The surgery, needed to repair what has been described as a double fracture, required two titanium plates and several screws to stabilize the affected area of his face.
Peró (12-0, 8 KOs) returned to the ring last Friday with a victory at Caribe Royale in Orlando against American Detrailous Webster. It was his first bout after nearly 13 months of inactivity. However, it appears the Cuban giant will now face another long layoff before stepping into the ring again.

Peró, 32, suffered the double fracture during the second round of his fight against Webster. Although he won the bout easily, he failed to impress—something his team attributed to a combination of ring rust and limited preparation time.
Since making his professional debut in 2019, Peró has maintained an undefeated record, racking up victory after victory, most by knockout. He is currently ranked highly by several major boxing organizations, including the WBA, where he holds the No. 6 spot after the latest update.
The fight against Webster was meant to be a stepping stone in Peró’s rise through the professional boxing ranks and to bring him closer to a future world title shot—much like his brother Dainier, who was recently named an ambassador for The Ring, the historic boxing publication owned by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Riyadh Season.
Peró will require an extended period of rest, and for now, a short- or mid-term return to the ring has been ruled out—once again delaying a career that was expected to gain momentum after a recent announcement that the heavyweight had signed a joint promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and Boxlab Promotions.
