Cuban boxing continues to showcase its dominance, and on January 18, a noteworthy development emerged with pugilist Frank Zaldívar (5-1, 3 KOs) at the center of attention. Known as "El Perro," Zaldívar became the third Cuban fighter confirmed to participate in the highly anticipated card set for February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main attraction will be the showdown between Cuban David Morrell Jr. and American David Benavidez.
Frank himself confirmed his participation in this event, a fact later corroborated by his opponent on social media. Zaldívar will face American Curmel Moton (6-0, 5 KOs), who, despite being just 18 years old, is considered one of the young prospects destined to dominate professional boxing in the future. Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is one of Moton's "mentors," underscoring the caliber of this athlete. The clash between Moton's raw talent and Zaldívar's skills promises to be a true clash of styles, one that could end in a knockout in favor of either fighter.

Initially, Moton was scheduled to face Kevin Castillo on this same card. However, it appears that an injury to the Ecuadorian-rooted boxer forced him to withdraw. Moton recently found himself in the spotlight after exceeding the weight limit for his scheduled fight against Brayan Mercado last November in Atlantic City. That fight, originally set at 133 pounds, was canceled when Moton weighed in at 148.7 pounds, a 15-pound overage.
On the other hand, Zaldívar joins his fellow Cubans David Morrell Jr. and Yoenli Feliciano, who already had their spots secured in the Las Vegas ring. Cuban boxers continue to climb to the top, and this event is further proof of their rise. Top promoters see Cuban fighters as essential assets in the boxing business, recruiting them for their various plans.
"El Perro" is eager to prove he still has much to offer. His last performance fell short of expectations when he lost by decision to fellow Cuban Yosdiel Nápoles last August at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Miami. The consequences of inadequate preparation were significant, as Frank required medical treatment after losing his undefeated record that night.
That setback is now behind him, and Zaldívar has continued his training. A new opportunity has appeared on the horizon, one that could change everything for the better. Currently residing in Odessa, Texas, he trains under Mexican coach Joe Alday. This fight could be a turning point in his career.
