Dmitry Bivol’s Wife Details Alleged Abuse

Ekaterina Bivol, the former partner of WBA light heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol has accused the boxer and his parents of domestic abuse. The former Mrs. Bivol took to social media to detail the years long alleged abuse that went as far back 2009.

On one occasion, Ekaterina alleges that Dmitry, with the assistance of his mother, pressured her into getting an abortion of their twin babies in the early stages of their relationship in order to not interfere with his burgeoning career. When speaking of the alleged reproductive coercion, she was quoted as saying, “I had an abortion at your direction for the sake of your career.” She continued, “… your mother chose where to do it.” She was 19 years old at the time.

Ekaterina alleges that the abuse turned physical on more than one occasion, at least one of which occurred in front of their children. She suffered facial abrasions as a result of one of these alleged attacks. When Dmitry was confronted by her father, Ekaterina claims that Dmitry told her father that she hit herself. She alleges that she was also dissuaded and prevented from going to the police by the Yuriy Bivol, Dmitry’s father.

Ekaterina alleged that she lost almost 20 pounds in two weeks as a result of emotional abuse suffered at the hand of Bivol’s mother. Ekaterina also says that she contemplated suicide.

She sought the help of a psychiatrist in the months leading to their separation. When asked about it, Ekaterina said, “I felt that everything was bad. This saved me.” In April, earlier this year, Ekaterina announced via social media that the couple had separated and were no longer together after 16 years. It is not known if the divorce has been officially finalized.

Dmitry Bivol has not been in the boxing ring since his unanimous decision victory over Gilberto Ramirez. In a September 26 article, published by Ring Magazine, Bivol and his manager, Vadim Kornilov, claimed that his absence in the ring was attributed to Bivol “wanting to take some time off.” His promoter, Eddie Hearn, attributes his absence to a previously undisclosed hand injury. Hearn says the tentative plan is for Bivol to fight in December or early January.

Neither Hearn nor Kornilov has commented on the abuse allegations against Bivol. It remains to be seen what, if any, effect the allegations will have on Bivol’s next bout.
